Just this last Easter I got to go down for the first time and see the processionals for Semana Santa or Holy week here in Spain. It was a really solemn, inspiring, and heartbreaking all at the same time!
One shot of the image of Mother Mary coming down the street
These men walked around bearing the cross many of them barefoot
Some people watching the events form their house above the street
One man who was clearly struggling because of how much these things weighed, this is a real test of endurance and sacrifice
Many of the children play this game during the processions where they collect wax from the candles and see how much they can get
Ok I know what you’re thinking, no it’s not the KKK, just traditional garb for the processions
A shot from the ground up as one images comes
There were about 8 other Jesus’ throughout the night
Some of the men in my home city of Mijas carrying Jesus through the streets
The image would occasionally stop for someone to sing a song to Jesus as you can see the woman from the balcony reach toward him in song
One of the band that came through Mijas
I love how much of a good time the kids had through it all
Never too young to start!
Jesus leaving Mijas….No come back!!!!!!!
One of the girls in our english classes, it was nice to recognize some of the kids
Another shot form Mijas with the crazy costumes
There really was an incredible family atmosphere in Malaga and it was nice to see love in the air!
One of the kids distracted from their duties!
And another…
